Jayawickrama Banned for Anti-Corruption Breach

Sri Lankan spinner Praveen Jayawickrama has been handed a one-year ban after admitting to breaching Article 2.4.7 of the ICC’s anti-corruption code, which relates to obstructing or delaying an investigation by the Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU). According to an ICC release, the charges are linked to his participation in both international cricket and the Lanka Premier League (LPL). Jayawickrama made his international debut in 2021 in a Test match against Bangladesh and has since played five Tests, five ODIs, and five T20Is, with his last appearance for Sri Lanka coming in a T20I series against Australia in 2022.

In the LPL, Jayawickrama was part of the Jaffna Kings squad that secured their second title in 2021, where he played one match and took two wickets. More recently, in the 2024 LPL season, he played for Dambulla Sixers.

This ban highlights the growing concerns around anti-corruption measures in cricket, especially at a time when the popularity of online cricket ID providers, betting ID, and platforms offering online betting services has surged. These providers, which offer cricket IDs to fans and bettors, play an increasingly important role in the online betting landscape, where transparency and accountability are critical to maintaining integrity within the sport. The rise of cricket ID providers has made it easier for fans to engage with the game, but it also requires strict regulatory frameworks to ensure that such platforms are not exploited for illegal or corrupt practices.

Reputable cricket ID providers and betting ID providers are implementing stronger policies to curb any misuse and ensure that their services remain fair and transparent. As cricket and betting continue to intertwine through digital platforms, it’s vital that both governing bodies and service providers maintain vigilance to uphold the integrity of the sport.
